The HWS CREW is part of the second generation of the Stuttgart (Germany) graffiti scene and has significantly shaped the city with their artwork. They aimed to continuously raise the quality and quantity of their work. After over 30 years, the time has come to look back and document the group’s creations from 1987 to the present in a book. Spanning 368 pages and featuring 648 photos, it showcases the entire spectrum of writing, including trains, bombings, line productions, and legal walls. The crew’s close connections to Basel and Bern, as well as significant trips, are also highlighted.
With the support of writer Projekt_55, detailed text contributions, an interview, and numerous anecdotes were created. Readers will immerse themselves in a time when Saturday nights saw all of Germany gathered in front of the TV for “Wetten, dass,” with no mobile phones or internet, and when one had to travel from Stuttgart to Munich, Dortmund, or Basel to see graffiti. Over the years, the youth became adults, and while the crew members’ hair began to turn gray, the once-gray walls of the city became colorful. Consequently, subsequent generations of Stuttgart writers had to contend with the fact that free spaces were now extremely rare.
